Absolution Theatrical Trailer: Our Struggle from Absolution TV on Vimeo.

Here we are again with our first “theatrical” trailer (theatrical is just a fancy word meaning that this trailer is longer than the teaser). The HD version will be up by the end of the day, but for now, here’s the small version:

I am disappointed at your trailer. Very disappointed! From here and there, and knowing one of the actor's (Lauren Bahr), I know that many of you - if not all - are Christians. But when I saw the trailer, I saw a worldly and violent show being made. I do not believe that you are ready to take on the burden of filmmaking yet, your worldviews are in conflict. Are you seeking to glorify God or yourselves? FILM TEACHES! The Bible says that we will be held accountable for what we teach. When I saw you trailer, I noticed reference to Zombies and children focused on killing, both are problematic because of how they are apparently being used. It sounds like you need to study Christian filmmaking from the Vision Forum Ministries before you continue. If this is not true please Email me that I may know what your real meaning is. I’ve seen many Christian Filmmakers give into the world’s thinking, PLEASE think about this before you continue! Because it is only then that the show will succeed. For references or contacts to Christian filmmaking guides and lectures, please Email. I want to help you, not hurt you. In Christ's Love: Jeffrey Kee
  • Jeffrey,
First, thank you for your concern. Thank you for taking the time and energy to make such a long and thoughtful response, it means a lot to me. I'd like to take this chance to defend my vision publicly, as it was questioned publicly, to hopefully quell inquiries of the same nature. I have to be honest: I saw these kinds of questions and comments coming from day one. "A Christian filmmaker making a zombie movie!?" And from that perspective, it's definitely a little strange. Let me first point out a couple of things that are not apparent in either of our trailers (but they *are* mentioned in our Behind The Scenes interviews):
    1. Though one character (Jordan Krause) refers to these people as 'zombies', in the actual show, we made a rule of never calling them zombies, except for his character. His character is oblivious to the difference between our antagonists, and a popular zombie. The reason we refrain from calling them zombies is because, simply, they're *not* zombies. As we've mentioned in our Behind the Scenes, these people are not undead. They are simply people who, by means of this virus, have no inhibitions at all. It's as if God took His restraint off of these people, and let them run with their sin. They are free to perform whatever their sin nature desires. Granted, we intensified the results a bit, to the point where these people are no more than bloodthirsty animals; but, then again, if God let us run free with our sin nature, we wouldn't be much better. This is the reason we don't refer to them as zombies, except for that one character. The reason *he* refers to them as such is so that we can explain the difference in the show itself. As the show is not released, it makes sense that this isn't apparent to you.
    2. This isn't a show about kids killing people. This is about these survivors surviving. As a Christian, I believe that God has given us the right to kill in self-defense, and instead of just have everyone in the show be okay with it, we actually deal with the fact that these people are just *teenagers* who are doing this.
    3. This show is a show about characters. We have a wide range of characters, with a wide range of beliefs. One of our characters is a born-again Christian, who struggles with her faith in this new world. Another is a devout atheist, who can't see anything good in this world. Others are at different degrees of either belief or unbelief.
    4. I do not believe that violence in a show or movie or book is wrong. The Bible has some of the bloodiest imagery I've ever read; but the way God uses it is to teach. Having violence in my show is not wrong in my point of view; and I hope that instead of just making everything cinematic, it helps to give realism, and punctuation, to what's happening, to better help the show stand out in peoples' minds. The more it stands out, the more they think about it. I want people to be able to delve deeper into each character, and I have confidence that once it all comes together, you'll be able to see what I'm trying to say.

As for the Christian film ministries, I have indeed checked into a couple of them, most notably the Advent Film Group, who I plan on working with at some point next year.
So, again, thank you very much for your comment, and I hope you took the time to read mine. I hope that I have been able to show you that this is more than an action zombie show: this is a show with multiple layers, and goes beyond just another sci-fi thriller. I also hope that I can persuade you to hold final judgment until we have released at least an episode or two, and you can better see how we executed this vision (good or not).
    God bless,
    Micah (Co-Creator, Director, Writer, Actor)
